B-cell growth factor is released by T lymphocytes after either lectin or antigen stimulation as a protein of Mr 12,000-14,000. Sahasrabuddhe et al. (1984) demonstrated that this relatively small molecule is derived from a precursor molecule of Mr 60,000-80,000 which exists in an intracytoplasmic pool in the T cells.
